Lightweights Battle the Weather at Head of the Charles

BOSTON, Mass. - Against some tough weather conditions and the traditionally tough competition at the prestigious Head of the Charles regatta, the University of Pennsylvania men's lightweight rowing team placed 15th Sunday on the Charles River in Boston, Mass.

The Quakers brought one boat to one of the world's most famous regatta's as coxswain Jason Bernstein was joined by teammates Mike Fisher, Nate Keane, Peter Ciullo, Paul Shay, Adam Neinstein, Brad Adams, David Mannion and Will Cooper.

In Penn's lightweight 8 race on Sunday, the Quakers were forced to row in some cold and windy conditions that plauged most of the day. In the 21-team race, Penn's time of 16:22.99 placed them 15th as the Quakers topped boats from Dartmouth, two Harvard boats and Yale's second varsity. The New York Athletic Club won the race with a time of 15:28.29.

Next week, the Quakers return home to the Schuylkill River. The Red and Blue will be on their home course for the Head of the Schuylkill on Saturday, Oct. 24.
