PHILADELPHIA/PRINCETON, N.J. - The University of Pennsylvania lightweights capped the Fall season with a pair of regattas this weekend, including a runner-up finish from the freshmen at the Head of the Schuylkill on Satuday and a top-10 performance at the Princeton Chase on Sunday.
At the Head of the Schuylkill on Saturday, the Penn freshmen finished as runner-ups in the eights in a field of 32 boats. The Quakers 'A' boat completed their home course in a time of 13:28.88. Penn's second boat of frosh finished 13th with a time of 15:19.15.
At the Princeton Chase, the men's top varsity eight boat finished 11th with a time of 13:53.137. Also in that race, the Quakers were 18th (14:21.388) and 29th (16:07.298). The freshmen competed with the heavyweights and finished 15th overall with a time of 14:40.321. That was sixth among lightweight boats. Penn's second freshman boat was 24th in that race with a time of 16:08.693, while the 'C' boat finished 30th at 17:40.002.
In the fours at Princeton, the Quakers cracked the top ten with an eighth-place finish of 15:42.539. Penn also had four other boats in the 34-team race with the 'B' boat posting the next-best finish at 16th with a time of 16:21.936.
The Quakers will resume competition in the spring where they will host a pair of cup races. The spring season starts on March 28 at M.I.T.
