PHILADELPHIA - In the first race of the fall season, the University of Pennsylvania men's lightweight rowing team placed third at the Quadricentennial Poughkeepsie Regatta in Poughkeepsie, N.Y., Saturday.
For the first trip of the season, the Quakers brought one boat to the four-mile course. The Red and Blue beat host Marist to the finish line with a time of 24:10.43. Navy won the lightweight race at 23:25.11, followed by Cornell's finish of 23:51.57.
Marist's course took the Quakers from Roger's Point in Hyde Park, N.Y., to the Mid-Hudson Bridge. Marist was more than a minute behind Penn with a final time of 25:33.91.
The lightweights are back in action next Saturday, Oct. 10, as they host their first regatta of the 2009 fall season with the Navy Day Regatta on the Schuylkill River.
