PRINCETON, N.J. – The 7th-ranked Penn lightweight rowing team rowed hard amid less than ideal conditions for the Wood-Hammond Cup on Saturday morning against No. 2 Princeton and No. 10 Georgetown on Lake Carnegie.

On a day where light rain was intermittent throughout the morning, the Quakers, Tigers and Hoyas had to fight a tough headwind that increased throughout each of the four races on the day and came to a peak in the varsity 8 race which began at 11:55 a.m.

Princeton retained the rights to the Wood-Hammond trophy in the varsity 8 race for the 11th straight year as they crossed the finish in 6:24.3. The Quakers were close behind in second place in 6:35.7 while the Hoyas were a distant third finishing in 6:53.7.

In the second varsity 8, Penn collected silver in 6:53.9 while Princeton grabbed gold in 6:43.7. Georgetown notched bronze in 6:58.5.

The Quakers also finished in second in the 3rd varsity 8 race in 7:02.3. Princeton won the heat in 6:46.4 while Georgetown was third in 7:10.6.

In the final race of the regatta that featured 4th, 5th and 6th varsity boats, Princeton 4V (6:58.8), 6V (7:12.1) and 5V (7:14.5) went 1-2-3 while Penn was fourth in 7:19.6. Georgetown concluded the race in fifth, crossing the line in 7:37.7.
