BOSTON, Mass. - It was a long wait for the University of Pennsylvania men's lightweight rowing team - they were in two of the last races of the day at the prestigious Head of Charles Regatta on Sunday and finished sixth in the fours and 10th in the eights.
At the world's largest two-day regatta, Penn's two races were in the final hour of the second day. The fours had no problem with the wait as they finished fourth among collegiate teams and sixth overall among the 22 boats. The New York Athletic Club team won the event with a time of 16:29.71. The only two college teams to top Penn's time of 17:19.94 were two boats from Yale and another from Navy.
In the eights, Penn was eighth among college boats as US Rowing won with a time of 14:27.74. Harvard was the top collegiate boat with a finish of 14:41.87. The Quakers finished the challenging course in a time of 15:26.65, just behind Ivy foes Columbia and Dartmouth. Overall, the Red and Blue were 10th among the 17 competitors.
Next on the fall schedule for the Quakers is the Head of the Schuylkill on Saturday.
