PHILADELPHIA - Two of Penn's three boats posted top-10 finishes to highlight the 50th edition of the prestigious Head of the Charles Regatta on Sunday for the University of Pennsylvania lightweights. The Quakers finished sixth in the varsity 8 race and earned a seventh-place showing in the fours.
Penn's sixth-place finish was its best at the Head of the Charles since 2006 as the varsity 8 finished the course in 15:20.705. That was just one second shy of a top-five showing, but garnered a sixth-place finish in the 17-boat race. The Quakers bested the top boats from Ivy rivals Yale, Dartmouth and Columbia, while Princeton pulled out the win with a time of 15:02.301.
Just prior to the varsity 8 race, the Quakers earned their first top-10 finish of the afternoon. Penn had two boats in the fours which featured 22 teams in all. The Red and Blue's top boat clocked out at 17:21.175 to finish seventh and fourth among collegiate boats. Penn's second crew was 20th with a time of 19:00.281.
The Quakers have one more competition weekend remaining this Fall. Penn will race in the Head of the Schuylkill on Saturday and at the Princeton Chase on Sunday.
