U.S. Rowing Rankings

PHILADELPHIA
- Following a successful season-opening regatta on the Schuylkill River, the University of Pennsylvania men's lightweight rowing team will travel to Cambridge, Mass., to take on M.I.T and Dartmouth on the Charles River Basin Saturday morning.

The varsity 8 race is set to begin at 9:12 a.m., while the novice 8 will start at 9:48 a.m. The second varsity race is at 10:12 a.m. and the third varsity and fours will start at 10:36 p.m. A list of Penn's tentative boatings can be found below.

In the first rankings poll of the year from U.S. Rowing, the Quakers cracked the top 10 and enter Saturday's regatta at No. 8 in the nation. Dartmouth is ranked No. 11 and M.I.T. enters as No. 12 in the country.

Penn is coming off a decisive win over No. 10 Delaware and Marietta in the varsity 8 race last Saturday. On a sunny, but chilly morning on Penn's home course, the Quakers gained an early lead and though Delaware stuck with the Red and Blue for much of the contest, Penn pulled away with a final push as the grandstand approached. The Quakers finished in a time of 5:46.5 to top Delaware's finish of 5:50.3 and Marietta's time of 6:04.9. Penn's other two varsity boats were also victorious in the spring debut for first-year head coach Nick Baker.

Last year against MIT, the Quakers defeated the Engineers in both the varsity 8 and the novice 8 races on the Schuylkill River in May. In the varsity race, the Quakers topped both M.I.T. and Saint Joseph's with a season-best time of 5:51.4. The freshman Penn defeated M.I.T. with a time of 6:00.3. They held off their counterparts who finished in 6:03.2.

A complete recap and results of the regatta will be available shortly after its conclusion on PennAthletics.com.
