Lightweights to Participate in Prestigious Head of the Charles

Head of the Charles Home

PHILADELPHIA - One of the most prestigious rowing events in the country, the Head of the Charles Regatta takes place this Sunday, Oct. 15 and the University of Pennsylvania men's lightweight rowing team will be a part of it. The Quakers are sending one boat to the festivities in Boston, Mass., this weekend.

Penn's boat is scheduled to be launching out of the FALS area dock on the Charles River at 3:09 p.m. on Sunday. The team's tentative lineup is listed below.

The Quakers will be one week removed from two fourth-place finishes at their first home regatta of the season. The first varsity was fourth in the men's college lightweight 4+ and in the men's college lightweight 8 during the Navy Day Regatta on the Schuylkill River on Oct. 10.

Last year at this event, the Quakers placed 13th in their race against a field of 21 boats.

The Head of the Charles Regatta is in its 45th year in 2009. For more information and for up-to-the-minute results, go to http://www.hocr.org/home/default.asp.
