Capital One Academic All-District Release
PHILADELPHIA - Junior punter Scott Lopano represented the University of Pennsylvania football team on the Capital One Academic All-District teams released on Thursday. The academic award recognizes the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom. The players are voted on by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
Lopano has served as the team's starting punter since his freshman season. The Southlake, Texas, native was honorable mention All-Ivy last season and is currently fourth in the league in punting this season. A product of Southlake Carroll High School, Lopano earned Ivy League Rookie of the Week honors in 2009 following a stellar performance in a win at Columbia that included a career-long 73-yard punt. Lopano, who also held many of the kickoff duties in his first two seasons, is enrolled in one of the nation's most prestigious business schools where he holds a 3.44 GPA in Wharton.
Lopano and the Quakers (5-3, 4-1 Ivy) are preparing for the team's national television matchup with Ivy unbeaten Harvard (7-1, 5-0 Ivy). Penn needs to win to defend its back-to-back Ivy titles. A loss eliminates the Quakers, but a win puts Penn back in a tie for first place. Kickoff from Cambridge is set for noon on VERSUS.
