PHILADELPHIA - Junior Megan Tryon was rewarded for her excellent all-around play last weekend as she was named the Ivy League Player of the Week, while freshman Lauren Martin earned Co-Rookie of the Week honors.
The two helped Penn to a 2-0 weekend, with four set wins over defending conference champion Yale and Brown.
Tryon was the catalyst for the Penn offense averaging 12.62 assists per set, 3.25 digs per set and .38 aces per set on the weekend. The junior had 56 assists and eight digs against Yale and followed it up with 45 assists, 18 digs, three total blocks and two service aces against Brown. Tryon is also the second Quaker in three weeks to receive Player of the Week honors, and third person this fall.
Martin was an offensive force in seven sets of action this weekend, hitting .388 with 36 kills (5.14) and eight digs (1.14). Against the defending conference champions she hit .350 and matched a career-high with 21 kills, six digs and added two block assists. She followed it up with 15 kills and a .444 attack percentage in three sets of action against the Bears. This also marks the third time Martin has been named Rookie of the Week, tops among Ivy League freshman.
The Quakers return to action on Friday when they travel to take on Columbia at 7 p.m.
