Matthias and Lange Still Alive at CSA Championships

PHILADELPHIA – In the opening round of the College Squash Association (CSA) Individual Championships, three members of the University of Pennsylvania women’s squash team won their matches. Kristen Lange and Paula Pearson were victorious in the Ramsay Division and Christina Matthias won in the Holleran Division.

Lange beat Kate Rapisarda, 3-0 (9-1, 9-2, 9-5). In her second round match, Lange simply dominated Jennifer Blumberg in three games (9-1, 9-0, 9-0). She will face Lily Lorentzen Saturday at 11:30 a.m.

Pearson defeatedAshley Malenchak in three games (10-9, 9-4, 9-2). In her second round match, Pearson lost to Kyla Grig, 3-0 (9-29-0, 9-4).

Matthias picked up two 3-0 victories to advance to the quarterfinal round. She downed TongDhanasarnsilp (9-2, 9-0, 9-3) in the opening round and Whitney Roller in the Round of 16 (9-4, 9-3, 9-1). Matthias plays Jennifer Coxe Saturday morning at 11:30 a.m.

Britt Hebden, Sydney Scott, Radhika Ahluwalia and Tara Chawla lost in their first round matches. Hebden lost to Neha Kuman, 3-0 (9-1, 9-2, 9-5). Scott fell to TehaniGuruge, 3-0 (9-7, 9-7, 9-1). Scott and Hebden faced off in the consolation round with Scott prevailing in three games (9-1, 9-3, 9-3). She plays Joann Lee Saturday at 10:40 a.m.

Ahluwalia lost to SupryiaBalsekarin four games. In her consolation match, Ahluwalia fell to Ashley Eyre, 3-0. Chawla lost in three games to Grig (9-1, 9-5, 9-1), Chawla bounced back, winning in her consolation match to Malenchak, 3-0 (9-6, 9-5, 9-3). She faces Lauren McCrery Saturday at 10:40 a.m.
