PHILADELPHIA - The Philadelphia Area Sports Information Directors Association has named Penn women's squash athletes Christina Matthias and Sydney Scott to its winter at-large Academic All-Area team. All Philadelphia area scholar-athletes other than basketball players and swimmers and divers are eligible for the at-large honor. Matthias and Scott were one of two pairs of teammates that were named to the team.
Sophomore Christina Matthias was a constant in the middle of the lineup for Penn, going 10-2 during the regular season. The nation's No. 28 player, she saw action as high as No. 2 on the Penn ladder, winning a 3-0 decision against George Washington.
Matthias claimed a 3-0 victory against Stanford in the Howe Cup quarterfinal, winning 10-8, 9-1, 9-7.
Sophomore Sydney Scott was a mainstay near the top of the Quakers' lineup as Penn went undefeated in the regular season, earning both the Ivy League and dual match titles. Scott won all three of her matches in the Howe Cup, including a 3-1 victory at No. 2 against Trinity that propelled the Quakers to their first final since 1999-2000. She also won a 3-0 decision at No. 3 against Princeton in the final.
Scott saw time at the top of the Penn ladder, playing at No. 1 against Bowdoin, Williams and Amherst. She earned seven regular season victories, all of which were of the 3-0 variety, en route to a No. 6 national ranking individually.
