Mattiace and Bethea Place Second at Keystone Classic

PHILADELPHIA – A pair of University of Pennsylvania wrestlers reached the finals of the 2016 Keystone Classic Presented by Canna Milne Financial, but each ran into a higher-ranked Penn State grappler who would deny the home wrestler the title.

157 pounder May Bethea returned to the Keystone Classic finals for the second consecutive year, but came up one win short as he took second place to national No. 1 Jason Nolf of Penn State. Bethea -- ranked No. 19 in the nation -- added  a win over a ranked opponent to his resume along the road to the final, knocking off No. 20 Neal Richards of VMI, 8-4, in overtime.

At 197 pounds, No. 16 Frank Mattiace recorded two falls on his way to the final, but a takedown with under five seconds remaining in regulation from No. 14 Matt McCutcheon was the difference in a 3-1 decision.

The Red and Blue had a second placewinner at 197 pounds as Joe Heyob secured fourth place after going 4-2 in the tournament. Both of his losses were to Northwestern's Jacob Berkowitz, with wins coming over Penn State and two over Pittsburgh wrestlers.

Penn is back on the mats December 4 at the Journeyman Tussle at Hofstra.
