PHILADELPHIA --Freshman running back Max Jones burst onto the scene for the University of Pennsylvania sprint football team over the weekend, and his efforts earned him Collegiate Sprint Football League (CSFL) Offensive Player of the Week honors.
Jones ran for 130 yards on 16 carries, averaging 8.1 yards-per-rush in Penn's 51-7 win over Franklin Pierce. Jones ran for a pair of touchdowns, adding a third score on a 12-yard reception.
He did most of his work in the first half, carrying the ball 10 times for 125 yards as Penn built a 41-0 halftime lead.
The biggest play of the day for Jones was a 65-yard rushing touchdown in the second quarter, a score which gave the Quakers a 28-0 lead.
Jones and the Quakers are at Post on Saturday. Kickoff is scheduled for noon in Waterbury, Conn.
