PHILADELPHIA – Junior first baseman Jeff McGarry had a breakout week for the University of Pennsylvania baseball team, going 10-for-19 (.526), totaling seven RBI, and scoring six runs,earning himself the Big 5 Player of the Week, for the week ending on March 16.
McGarry’s impressive week for Penn began in the field, when the first baseman made a marvelous diving play to snare a groundball, saving a run in the bottom of thefifth inning against Delaware State on Tuesday. McGarry would go on and put the Quakers ahead in thetop of the sixth inning, hitting a solo home run, and leading Penn to a 4-1 victory in game one of two against the Hornets.
In game two at Delaware State, McGarry would hit another home run, score four runs and drive in three Penn RBI, beforethrowing 1/3 of an inning in relief, getting a strikeout to end a Hornets scoring threat.
During Penn’s three-game series with Richmond McGarry went 6-for-12 (.500), with two doubles and two RBI.
