McHugh Places 14th in 100 Breaststroke at NCAA Championships

Touching the wall with a time of 53.50 during Friday night's 'B' Final in the 100 Breaststroke, Brendan McHugh finished one of his premier events in 14th place nationally at the NCAA Championships. His qualification for the 'B' Final means that he will return to Philadelphia at the end of this weekend as a Honorable Mention All-American.

The NCAA Championships conclude on Saturday and McHugh still has one event left to compete in: the 200 Breaststroke. He enters this weekend 19th nationally in that eventand will need to finish in the top sixteen during tomorrow's prelimsto continue on into a final on Saturday night.

Brendan McHugh shaved .01 off his school record in the 100 Breaststroke with a time of 53.03 in Friday morning's prelims at the NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships, hosted by Seattle University. The result placed him 10th in a field of 33 swimmers and earned the senior a spot in tonight's 'B' final where he will face, among others, his long-time rival Jonathan Christensen of Princeton. Both finished less than a tenth of a second from qualifying for the 'A' final.
