PHILADELPHIA - After teeing off the 2015 fall season last weekend at Cornell, the University of Pennsylvania men's golf team is back in action this weekend. They make the long trip North to Quechee, Vt., to compete in the Quechee Intercollegiate hosted by Dartmouth College.
Josh Goldenberg, Carter Thompson and Amay Poria were Penn's three low scorers, respectively, last weekend at Cornell and they will again anchor the Quakers' lineup. They will be joined by senior Matt Kern and freshman Eric Ganshaw, who makes his collegiate debut. Another freshman, Sergio Roman, will play the event as an individual.
"While our team finish at Cornell was not what we hoped for after a solid first two rounds, there is plenty to build from, so we are looking forward to testing ourselves again this weekend," said head coach Bob Heintz. "The Quechee Club is a great venue for this event, and I hear it’s in good condition so we hope to see some great scoring.
"We’re trying some different lineup combinations early in the year as we’ve done in the past, which gets the whole team involved right away. So far, I’m encouraged by the play of Amay, Carter and Josh. They are establishing themselves as on-course leaders and they enjoy competing with each other both in qualifying and in tournaments. It's up to me and the rest of the team to identify the best players to round out the top 5 moving forward, and I’m confident the guys are up to the challenge."
