Men's Squash Wins at Princeton for first time since 1973, 6-3

PRINCETON, N.J. – For the first time since 1973, the University of Pennsylvania’s men’s squash team picked up a win over Princeton on the Tigers’ home court. Fueled by four five-game triumphs, the Quakers earned a 6-3 victory over their Ivy rivals on Wednesday night at the Jadwin Squash Courts.

The Red and Blue jumped out to a 3-1 lead after the first shift of matches. Derek Hsue put together the Quakers’ first win at No. 2, registering a 3-1 (6-11, 11-9, 11-7, 11-2) decision over Clark Doyle. Wins by Max Reed (No. 7) and David Yacobucci (No. 6)—each in five games—added to Penn’s advantage.

The Quakers’ only sweep of the night came off the racquet of Jonathan Zeitels, who provided Penn a 4-1 lead with a win at No. 9. After Princeton snagged points at No. 1 and No. 5, Hayes Murphy clinched the visitors’ all-important fifth win at No. 3. The junior battled back from a 2-1 deficit, rattling off the final two games, 11-7 and 11-9. The final match on court was BG Lemmon, who also earned a 3-2 victory in the No. 8 slot.
