PHILADELPHIA – Albert G. Molloy Head Coach of Penn Men’s Tennis, David Geatz, has announced the program’s fall schedule for the 2016-17 school year. Highlighted by three home tournaments, the Quakers will be in action a total of four times from mid-September to early November.
“We have a great fall schedule with Penn hosting two invitationals, as well as the Regional Championships,” said Coach Geatz. “The Minnesota Invite should also give us a taste of Big Ten competition, and be a good measuring stick for where we are by the end of the fall.”
In similar fashion to last season, Coach Geatz’s squad will begin their campaign by hosting the Penn Invitational on Sept. 16-18. Last year, the Quakers took on opponents from St. John’s, VCU, Buffalo, Old Dominion, and William & Mary at their annual invite.
More hosting duties will come the following weekend, as the Red and Blue will co-host the Ivy Plus Tournament with Princeton on Sept. 23-25. The Tigers were the lone hosts at last season’s event, which featured more than 20 teams from across the country.
Following a few weeks off, the highly anticipated ITA Northeast Regional will make its way to Philadelphia for the first time since 2006. The Hamlin and Hecht Center courts will be filled with some of the best players from all over the region on Oct. 20-25. During last year’s tournament in New Haven, then-freshman Kyle Mautner made quite a debut with a run to the semifinal round of the singles draw.
The Red and Blue will close out the fall semester with a trip to the Minnesota Invite on Nov. 4-6. Minneapolis is a familiar spot for the Quakers, as Coach Geatz spent 18 seasons as head coach at the University of the Minnesota and assistant coach Brian Ward grew up in nearby Darwin, Minnesota.
Penn’s spring slate will be announced later this season.
