Women's 2011 Schedule and Countdown

PHILADLEPHIA - A little more than five weeks from now the cross country season will be underway for the University of Pennsylvania as head coach Blake Boldon announced the men's and women's 2011 schedules Tuesday.

For the third straight year, the Red and Blue open their season Sept. 10 in Van Cortland Park in New York City at the Fordham Fiasco. The Quakers are defending champions as both teams won the event last year - the second straight year the women won the title.

A week later, the Quakers travel back to Van Cortland Park for the Iona Meet of Champions. Last year, both teams finished second out of the 19 schools to mark the third straight year in which they've finished in the top 10.

Penn will take a week off and then return to action on Friday, Sept. 30 in Bethlehem, Pa. for the Paul Short Invitational, an annual tradition for the Quakers.

After two well-deserved weeks off, the team has one more warm-up before the Heps Championships as they head to State College, Pa., for the Penn State Invitational on Oct. 15. Then on Oct. 29, Penn will take its place in the Heptagonal Championships in Princeton, N.J.

Penn will then take its qualifiers to the NCAA Regional Championships on Nov. 12 with the chance to qualify for the NCAA National Championships.

This will mark the first year for Boldon at the helm of the Quakers after he was promoted on July 18 following his inaugural season as the distance coach for both track and field programs.
