STATE COLLEGE - Both the men's and women's fencing teams competed at Penn State on Saturday, with each team fencing three matches. The women's team won all three bouts while the men left State College with a 2-1 record on the day.
On the women's side, Penn started the day fencing Penn State, a team ranked fourth in the latest USCFA polls. The Quakers, ranked eighth, defeated the Lions in a close match, 15-12. The momentum carried over for the rest of the day, as Penn also defeated Haverford, 20-7 and Cleveland State, 25-2.
The men's team also started their day with Penn State, the number one ranked team in the country. The Lions held up to their ranking, and defeated Penn, 19-8. The Red and Blue rallied for a pair of matching 22-5 wins in their final two matches of the day, defeating Haverford and Cleveland State.
Next Sunday, both teams are in action at the first Ivy League round robin in New Haven, Conn.
