Men's and Women's Soccer Teams Take on Columbia in Saturday's Doubleheader

Philadelphia – The University of Pennsylvania men’s and women’s soccer teams are gearing up for an Ivy League doubleheader tomorrow, Oct. 9, as both are hosting Columbia. The women’s team will kick off at noon, followed by the men at 2:30 p.m.

The women’s team (4-4-1, 2-0-0 Ivy League) is currently on a four-game unbeaten streak. The Red and Blue and Princeton remain the only undefeated teams in the Ivy League. Last time out, the Quakers easily defeated Cornell, 3-0, on Oct. 2. Senior goalkeeper Anna Halse’s impeccable play in net for the Penn has earned her national recognition, as she currently ranks 10th in the nation in goals against average (0.41). Since taking over in goal five games ago, she has posted a 3-0-1 record, including two shutouts.

On the men’s side, the Quakers (5-2-1, 1-0-0 Ivy League) have gone unbeaten in their last five games outscoring opponents, 8-1, during that time. The Red and Blue is steadily moving up the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) regional rankings, as they are now tied with Seton Hall for second in the Middle Atlantic area. Sophomore goalkeeper Daniel Cepero has been solid in net for Penn, allowing just one goal in his last four games. The Red and Blue opened Ivy League play last weekend at Cornell, where they handed the Big Red a 2-0 defeat.

Come show your continued support of the Penn soccer program by heading out to Rhodes Field on Saturday.
