PHILADELPHIA - With both team returning home from road trips far from home, the University of Pennsylvania men's and women's tennis teams will host a combined three matches this weekend at the Hecht Tennis Center.
The men will take the court first on Saturday, playing host to Middle Tennessee State at 10 a.m. Penn is coming off a weekend trip to Seattle where it took on Eastern Tennessee State and Washington. They narrowly fell to ETSU, 4-3 followed by a tough 7-0 loss to Washington. Before the trip, the Quakers dominated Navy, 7-0.
MTSU is 1-1 in their spring campaign, defeating Chattanooga, but falling to No. 25 Vanderbilt. They were schedule for a match with Xavier last weekend, but Winter Storm Jonas caused it to be postponed.
The women will compete twice this weekend, returning home from the ITA Kick-Off Weekend in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. They will face Old Dominion on Saturday and Rutgers on Sunday.
Nothing came easy down south, including the trip itself. The Quakers had to reschedule their flights after the weather failed to cooperate. Once they made it to Alabama, they were greeted by No. 15 Alabama and No. 45 Purdue, who both handed the Quakers losses. Despite the losses, the Quakers did play well and will look to build off those matches in their home opener.
Penn will see No. 57 Old Dominion first on Saturday at noon. The Monarchs are 1-2 on the young season. They also participated in the ITA Kick-Off Weekend where they beat No. 65 Tulane, but suffered a loss to No. 4 Georgia.
On Sunday, Rutgers will head to Philadelphia to open its season at the Hecht Tennis Center.
