PHILADELPHIA The John R. Rockwell Head Coach of Men’s Basketball, Glen Miller, has announced that three players have been accepted to Penn and will join the basketball team as freshmen for the 2006-07 season -- Justin Reilly (Dallas, Texas/Dallas Jesuit), Andreas Schreiber (Taby, Sweden/The Brentwood School [Calif.]) and Darren Smith (Elizabeth, N.J./Peddie School).
“All three players have tremendous potential, and I expect them to make an immediate impact,” said Miller, who was hired in April and enters his first season with the Quakers. “It was important to improve our depth in the frontcourt, and both Andreas and Justin will do that. They are versatile players who can play multiple positions in our system. Darren is a big, athletic guard who can score in a variety of ways. With our returning experience, and this talented class, I am very excited to get started.”
Reilly, Schreiber and Smith join a team that returns 10 letterwinners from the 2005-06 Ivy League champions, headlined by three outstanding senior starters: Ibrahim Jaaber, the 2005-06 Ivy League Player of the Year; Mark Zoller, a first-team All-Ivy selection last year; and Steve Danley, an honorable mention All-Ivy pick the last two seasons. Penn went 20-9 last year (12-2 Ivy League) and lost to Texas in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.
