PHILADELPHIA - The Penn men's basketball has officially tipped off the 2008-09 season, conducting its first official practice this afternoon.
Under John R. Rockwell Head Coach of Men's Basketball Glen Miller -- who begins his third season with the program -- Penn returns 12 letterwinners and four starters from last year's squad, which overcame youth and inexperience to finish 8-6 in the Ivy League and place third. Five newcomers who are eligible for this season have also joined the roster. Penn is looking to earn an Ivy League-record 26th conference championship this season.
Penn will open the 2008-09 season on Saturday, Nov. 15 when they travel to Chapel Hill, N.C. to take on preseason No. 1 North Carolina. The Quakers' first home game will come a week later, when Monmouth comes to town on Nov. 22.
