PHILADELPHIA - After a slow start, the Quakers pulled past Brownwith 51.9-percent shooting in the second half to complete a season sweep of the Bears, 64-54.Harrison Gaines led with 14 points andthree otherQuakers finished in double figures.
Penn (9-16, 5-6 Ivy) had trouble in the first half and saw Brown (7-19, 1-11 Ivy) surge to a 13-point lead before the midway point of the half. Plagued by 28-percent shooting, the Quakers nevertheless battled back to pull within two heading into the locker room at the break.
Head Coach Glen Miller's halftime speech did the trick, as the Quakers took their first lead of thegame five minutes into the second half. Harrison Gaines came off the bench early in the half and keyed Penn's comeback with 14 points and six rebounds in 14 minutes during the second half. He added one rebound from the first to lead the Quakers on the boards with seven.
The leadsee-sawed between the teams, with Brown taking a one-point lead with 3:21 left on the clock. Freshman Zack Rosen answered with a jumper, and then Rob Belcore nailed a big three-pointer to go up four. Gaines added another layup, and Brown resorted to fouling to close out the game.
Belcore had 11 points, five boards and three assists. Rosen added 10 points and four assists.
The Quakers hit the road for the final Ivy weekend of the season, with Cornell Friday night and Columbia Saturday.
