The Quakers lead the series, 38-30, but the Explorers have dominated this matchup in recent years with eight straight wins (after Penn had won six in a row from 2002-07). Last year, La Salle gained an 84-67 win at Tom Gola Arena; the last meeting at The Palestra, two years ago, was won by the Explorers, 76-57.
Penn vs. The Atlantic 10
Penn is 86-97 against the programs that currently play in the Atlantic 10. The Quakers also will play A-10 programs George Mason (Dec. 5) and Saint Joseph’s (Jan. 20) later this season.
*Through four games, Penn has a 1.33 assist/turnover ratio (64/48), and 64 assists on its 98 baskets (a 65.3 percentage). Last year, Penn’s assist/turnover ratio was 0.78, and its assist-to-basket percentage was 54.9.
*Penn has 28 three-point baskets so far this season, a 7.0 per-game average. Last year, Penn averaged 5.5 treys per game.
*Penn is 6-2 when sophomore Sam Jones scores in double figures during his career; that includes three of four games so far this season.
*Senior Darien Nelson-Henry is the only Penn player who has scored in double figures in all four games this season.
*Junior Matt Howard has 17 rebounds in the last two games (9 at Delaware State, 8 at Washington) and has led the Quakers in that category in both of those games.
