Men's Cross Country Finishes Fourth in First Race

BRONX, N.Y.- The Penn men's cross country team opened its season at the Fordham Fiasco on Saturday with a fourth place finish among 16 teams in the 8k race, held in Van Cortlandt Park.

James Finucane was the top Quaker finisher as the senior finished with a time of 26:20.14 to place 17th overall. Michael Cunningham followed shortly behind him with a 26:39.28 to finish 21st.

Other scorers for Penn were John Foye in 30th with a 26:52.63, Mike Vido, who crossed the line in 27:01.68 to finish 36th and George Dickson, 42nd overall with a final time of 27:18.01.

"We had some great runs today," said head coach Blake Boldon. "Some of our middle distance guys stepped up and tackled the longer race. Ryan Cunningham had one of the best races he's ever had. We're going to need a lot more of that as the year progresses."

The experience the team gained this week will come in handy as the Quakers return to the Bronx to take part in the Iona Meet of Champions next week, also to be run in Van Cortlandt Park.
