PHILADELPHIA - The men's cross country team will take part in the 39th running of the Paul Short Invitational on Friday morning at Lehigh University. The Quakers will be part of a 33-team field in the Brown Race, scheduled to start at 12:15 p.m.
It's been a solid start to the season for a young Penn squad. The Red and Blue held steady last week at No. 12 in the Mid-Atlantic Region despite a weekend without a competition. That ranking comes on the heels of a sixth place finish at the Iona Meet of Champions on Sept. 15.
Penn came in 34th out of 45 schools at the 2011 running of the Paul Short Invitational. Kevin Foy and Mike Kiley return after scoring for the Quakers at last year's race, while four others ran the course a year ago in wet, muddy conditions.
Penn will have another two-week break before competing again. A handful of individuals will take part in the Haverford Invitational on the afternoon of Oct. 11, but no team scoring will take place in that race. Two days later, a full squad will travel to Lafayette for the Leopard Invitational, beginning at 10 a.m.
