PRINCESS ANNE, MD. - Adapting quickly to a 10k race after running 8k courses throughout the fall, the men's cross country teambarely misseda beat as they logged a 13th place finish at the NCAA East Regional on Saturday.
Ryan Cunningham and Mike Kiley were the lead runners for Penn much of the way, Cunningham nudging out Kiley at the finish with a time of 32:02.2 that put him 55th overall. Kiley was less than a second behind at 32:02.9 and in 57th.
"I'm very proud of Ryan's and Mike's performances today," said head coach Blake Boldon. "Ryan had contacted me earlier in the week and told me he was ready to lead the team this weekend and he did. And Mike put himself out there very early on in the race. He fell back as the race progressedbut it was great to see one of our guys take that kind of chance for the good of the whole team."
Senior Mike Vido was the third Penn scorer, finishing 82nd in 32:50.4. Kevin Foy (32:58.8, 86th) and George Dickson (33:10.7, 97th) rounded out the Red and Blue's top five. Max Lamb (33:44.4) and Josh Black (33:59.7) were the other Quakers in today's race.
"In my opinion, Mike Vido put an exclamation point on his career at Penn. He's the epitome of hard work paying off and has been a leader for both the men's and women's teams while I've been here," said Boldon. "This team isn't where I want it to be yet, but our performance today makes me very confident in the direction we're moving."
