Men's Fencing Finishes 4-2 at the NU Duals

EVANSTON, Ill. – After starting the day off with two losses to nationally ranked teams, the University of Pennsylvania men’s fencing team bounced back and won four duals to finish 4-2 at the NU Duals on Saturday. The Quakers fell to No. 3 Ohio State and No. 2 Notre Dame but defeated Air Force, UNC, UCSD, and No. 10 Stanford.

The foil squad fell in a close fight to OSU 4-5 and then suffered a 1-8 loss to Notre Dame. The group rebounded and won the next four duals, including a 5-4 win over No. 10 Cardinal. Freshman Harry McGuire was the lone foil fencer to finish the day with double-digit wins, going 12-6.

After starting off the day with a 5-4 win over OSU, the epee squad struggled to find their rhythm. Freshman Zsombor Garzo recorded the most wins and the best record on the day for epee, going 12-6 with 2-1 marks against both the Buckeyes and Fighting Irish.

The sabre squad also started the day with two losses but turned around for four straight wins. Sophomore Isaac Buchwald finished the day with the most wins overall for the Red and Blue, sporting a 13-3 record including 3-0 marks against Stanford, UNC, and UCSD.
