Men's Fencing Finishes First Day At NCAA Championships

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - The Penn's men's fencing team concluded its first day of competition at the NCAA Championships with two players in the top ten in their respective weapons.

Sophomore Alex Simmons sits in eighth place following the first day of fencing, as he captured eight victories in 14 matches while fencing in foil. Freshman Evan Prochniak captured eight wins in sabre, good enough for 10th after day one.

Also fencing on Saturday was sophomore Vidur Kapur and junior Jacob Wischnia. Kapur won seven bouts in foil, to put himself in 13th, while Wischnia won three bouts in epee on Saturday.

As a team, Penn moved up to eighth place with the performances of the men. The Red and Blue return to the strips for the final day of fencing on Sunday with action beginning at 9:30 a.m.
