Men's Fencing Hosts Philadelphia Invitational Sunday

PHILADELPHIA - The Penn men's fencing team opens their 2010 campaign this weekend as they host six teams in the Philadelphia Invitational in Hutchinson Gym on Sunday.

The Red and Blue welcome Drew, Duke, New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT), North Carolina, and Sacred Heart to campus with the action commencing at 10 a.m.

Though the Quakers have only fenced in competition once this year, it was an impressive performance. At the Temple Open, the Red and Blue took the top two spots in both sabre and foil and claimed three other top ten finishes.

Freshman Evan Prochiak won sabre, while senior Jonathan Berkowsky finished second. In foil, sophomore Alex Simmons took first while classmate Vidur Kapur placed second.

Senior Andrew Bielen was fifth in sabre, while freshman Sinatrio Raharjo took sixth in foil and junior Jacob Wischnia was Penn's top finisher in epee with a 10th place finish.
