DURHAM, N.C. - North Carolina men's basketball team was not the only visiting school to have a good day on the Duke University campus Saturday. It was a grueling day of competition, but the University of Pennsylvania men's fencing team had a successful day at the NCAA Mid-Atlantic/South Regional on Saturday withfive top-10 finishers.
Sophomore Ron Berkowsky-- who was the No1 seed in the foil --finished third, which was the Quakers' highest finish.Weaponmates Michael Galligan and Corey Purcellfinished seventh and10th, respectively.
Ben Wieder had the Red and Blue's top finish in the epee. He took sixth, while Samuel Monk took 17th, Alex Tozzo placed 28th, and Noah Rohrer finished 32nd.
In the saber, freshman Matthew Kolasa was Penn's only competitior. He finished fifth.
The Quakers could have as many as five fencers qualify for the NCAA Championships. An official announcement of all competitiors will bereleased onMonday. The NCAA Championships will take place from March 16-19 in Houston, Texas.
