Men's Fencing Readies for Back-to-Back Competition

PHILADELPHIA – After a week off from competition, the No. 7 University of Pennsylvania men’s fencing team is ready to get back into action this weekend. The Quakers will stay local and participate in the Temple Invitational on Saturday before hosting the USCSC on Sunday. Saturday’s competition will be a big test for the Quakers, as they will face three ranked opponents.

Penn will take on No. 2 Penn State bright and early Saturday morning with revenge in mind. The last time these two teams saw each other was at the PSU Invitational, when the Nittany Lions defeated the Red and Blue, 23-4.

After the first round is completed, the Quakers will face their second ranked opponent – No. 8 St. John’s – which is a team they have yet to face this season. Penn will then wrap up the day with No. 5 Ivy foe, Princeton. The last time these two teams came face-to-face on the strips was two weeks ago in the Ivy League Fencing Round Robins at Brown University, where the Quakers were victorious with a 14-13 win over the Tigers.

With a quick turnaround, the Red and Blue will host the USCSC on Sunday in The Coach Dave Micahnik Fencing Center. Seedings for the tournament will take place before fencing begins that morning.
