Men's Fencing Splits at Ivy Championship

NEW YORK, N.Y. – Although weather conditions were not ideal and traveling to the Big Apple was a challenge, the Ivy Championship South still went on on Sunday. Penn defeated Brown 23-4 in their first bout, but lost to Harvard 16-11.

The Quakers took the sabre 8-1. Freshman Anders Eiremo led Penn with three victories, while three others combined for five wins. The Red and Blue also won the foil 8-1. Ron Berkowsky and Michael Galligan combined for six wins. In the epee, Penn downed the Bears 7-2. Alex Tozzo and Ben Wieder both went 3-0.

The Red and Blue fell in the sabre 6-3 to Harvard, but bounced back to win the foil 7-2. Berkowsky went 3-0, while Corey Purcell and Galligan went 2-1. Penn lost the epee 8-1, Noah Rohrer picked up the lone win.

Penn is now 7-6 overall and 2-3 in the Ivy League and finish in fourth place. The Quakers will compete in the Junior Olympics on Friday, Feb. 17 in Hartford, Conn.
