Men's Golf 23rd After Round 2 at West Regional

TEMPE, Ariz. - The Penn men's golf team is in 23rd place out of 27 teams after two days at the NCAA West Regional. The Quakers shot 293 as a team Friday afternoon, which puts them at 5-over-par heading into Saturday's final round.

The top 10 teams, and top two individual players from teams that do not qualify, will advance to the NCAA Championships in Williamsburg, Va.

On another day when the course was open to scoring, UCLA finished the day at 15-under-par 273 and is now a staggering 35-under par through two rounds. That puts the Bruins one stroke ahead of second-place South Carolina, which shot 269 Friday and is now 34-under par. In all, 21 teams are under par heading into Saturday's final round, and 77 out of 141 golfers have a red number.

Penn was once again led by Chance Pipitone Friday; the freshman shot a 2-under-par 70, putting him at 7-under par through two rounds. He is tied with seven other golfers for 15th place in the individual competition.

Sophomore Michael Blodgett is tied for 84th overall after shooting 73 Friday, which puts him at 1-over par through two rounds. Junior Nick Ryder shot 75 Friday and is 5-over par for the tournament, which places him tied for 112th.

Sean Barrett is 6-over par through two rounds and tied for 118th overall, while Dean Merrill is 7-over par and is tied for 123rd.

The Quakers finish the tournament Saturday with tee times from 12:29 to 1:07 p.m. (3:29 to 4:07 p.m. Eastern). Penn will tee off from No. 1 with players from 22nd-place UC-Irvine and 24th-place San Diego State.
