Men's Golf at Princeton Saturday, Sunday

Springdale Golf Club information

PHILADELPHIA – The University of Pennsylvania men’s golf team plays its second tournament in as many weeks this Saturday and Sunday, when the Quakers are part of a 14-team field at the 27th annual Princeton Invitational. The tournament will run at Springdale Golf Club, just off the Princeton campus; the teams will play 36 holes on Saturday, and a final 18 on Sunday.

Penn and host Princeton will be joined by all of its Ivy League brethren in the field, as well as Georgetown, Navy, Rider, Saint Joseph’s, Seton Hall and Temple. Springdale is a par-71 course that measures 6,390 yards.

Penn will field the same five players from last weekend’s tournament at Yale: seniors P.J. Fielding and Colin St. Maxens; junior Max Marsico; and sophomores Ben Cooley and Austin Powell.

“Our team enjoys playing at Springdale Golf Club, which is Princeton's home course,” said head coach Bob Heintz. “Our players have posted several under-par scores there in past years, and it lends itself to low scoring with several short par-4 holes and reachable par-5's.

“After a somewhat disappointing tournament at Yale last week, the guysare eager to break out and make a serious bid for a victory this weekend,” he continued. “Max, P.J. and Colin continue to look solid in practice, while Ben and Austin survived a team qualifying competition to earn spots this week. With the ultimate goal being the defense of our Ivy title, the team could use a couple of strong finishes at Princeton and Navy to boost our confidence. I am optimistic that the team will take advantage of the friendly confines of Springdale and put up some serious numbers this weekend. We are due for some hot rounds and a bunch of birdies.”
