Men's Golf Back At It This Weekend

PHILADELPHIA -The Penn men's golf team returns to tournament action for the second time in less than a week this Saturday and Sunday, traveling to Yale to compete in the Macdonald Cup. The 54-hole tournament will play two rounds on Saturday, with the final round on Sunday morning at the Yale Golf Club.

Penn is one of 12 teams who will compete in the Macdonald, which is being played for the 35th consecutive year. In addition to the host Bulldogs, the Ivy League will be well-represented with Columbia, Dartmouth, Harvard and Princeton also in the field.

"We are really looking forward to going back up to Yale," said head coach Scott Allen. "The team hasn't played the Golf Course at Yale in many years and it's certainly an interesting course with a lot of character. Scotty Williams played there at the 2010 NCAA Regional and we are both looking forward to going back.

"I am optimistic about our chances going into the weekend," he continued. "There are a lot of other Ivies there, and it will be a good chance to see where we stack up early in the season."

Penn hosted the Rehoboth Beach (Del.) Fall Invitational on Monday, and the biggest surprise came outside the lineup as sophomore Marco Fortades -- competing in the event as an individual -- tied for medalist honors. He is in Penn's lineup this weekend along with mainstays Williams, Colin St. Maxens and Max Marsico. Junior P.J. Fielding rejoins the lineup this weekend after missing Monday's event. In addition, freshman Ben Cooley will compete in the field as an individual.
