Men's Golf Coach Rob Powelson Resigns

PHILADELPHIA – The University of Pennsylvania announced the resignation of Rob Powelson as men’s golf coach today. The announcement came from Penn Athletics Director Steve Bilsky.

Powelson -- who coached the men for three years -- has stepped down to devote more time to his family.

“I want to thank athletic director Steve Bilsky, the alumni and the players for the opportunity to be involved with the Penn golf program during my tenure,” Powelson said.

“Rob did a nice job assisting Penn Director of Golf Francis Vaughn with our men’s golf program,” Bilsky said. “We wish him the best in all of his future pursuits.”

Powelson certainly goes out on top; he led the Quakers to the Ivy League Championships team title in April, and in May he brought the men to the NCAA West Regional where freshman Chance Pipitone qualified individually for the NCAA Championships. As a team, the Quakers won four tournaments during Powelson’s tenure -- the Macdonald Cup (fall 2005), the George Washington Invitational (spring 2006 and 2007) and the Ivy League Championships (spring 2007) -- and finished second in three tournaments in 2006-07.
