Men's Golf Earns GCAA All-Academic

PHILADELPHIA - The Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) has released its team academic awards for the 2008-09 school year,and the Penn men's golf team was among 46 Division I programs nationwide to receive All-Academic Team status.

In order to receive All-Academic Team, a program must boast a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better.

Penn, which finished second at last year's Ivy League Championships,was one of just two Ivy League programs to earn All-Academic Team status. The other was Columbia.

Among the 46 honored programs, six-- Belmont, Detroit Mercy, East Carolina, East Tennessee State, Georgia Tech, Rice and Seton Hall -- received the GCAA President's Special Recognition, with team GPAs above 3.5, and ETSU was honored as the Division I Academic National Champion.

Under second-year head coach Scott Allen, the Quakers will begin the 2009-10 season the weekend of September 12-13 at the Maryland Intercollegiate. It will be the first of five events this fall.
