Men's Golf Finishes 11th in South Carolina

AIKEN, S.C. - The University of Pennsylvania men’s golf team finished 11th out of 18 teams at the Cleveland Golf Palmetto Intercollegiate, which concluded Tuesday at the par-70 Palmetto Golf Club.

The Quakers shot a final-round 306 and ended the tournament at 897. Augusta State was the team champion, carding 856 over the three rounds to finish seven strokes ahead of South Carolina and seven strokes ahead of both North Carolina State and Clemson.

Individually, junior Max Marsico shot Penn’s low round on Tuesday, a 73, and he ended the tournament as the low Quaker at 220, which tied him for 22nd in a 90-player field. Austin Powell (78 on Tuesday) shot 223 for the tournament and tied for 32nd, while senior captain P.J. Fielding (77) tied for 36th at 224.

Colin St. Maxens shot a 78 on Tuesday and tied for 60th in the field with a 230, while Ben Cooley (81 on Tuesday) tied for 86th with a three-round 241.

Matt Atkins of host USC-Aiken was the individual medalist at the event, carding 68-68-70—206 to finish two strokes ahead of Virginia’s Mac McLaughlin (71-64-73—208).

Penn returns to action on Saturday, April 6, when the Quakers participate in the Yale Spring Invitational, a 36-hole event at the Yale Golf Course in New Haven, Conn.
