PHILADELPHIA – The University of Pennsylvania men’s golf team is back in action on Saturday, with a full day expected at the Met Intercollegiate hosted by Yale University in Purchase, N.Y.
The one-day, 36-hole event will begin with an 8:20 a.m. shotgun start at Century Country Club, then move to Old Oaks CC for a 1:45 afternoon start. Penn is one of a number of Ivy League teams in the field along with non-Ivies Army, Bucknell, Fordham and Temple.
Penn’s lineup on Saturday will feature seniors Ben Cooley and Tomas Agrest; junior Patrick O'Leary; sophomore Matt Kern; and freshman Amay Poria. Another sophomore, Dane Walton, will be in the field playing as an individual.
“This weekend,s event is, very simply, an opportunity for the team to rebound from a poor performance last week at Towson,” said head coach Bob Heintz. “While the conditions were admittedly extremely challenging in Maryland, we did not compete well. With the weather forecast looking chilly and windy for Saturday, this is shaping up to be another test of toughness, and I hope our team responds better this time around.
“I am looking forward to competing with some other Ivy teams as well. This is our first event of the spring with many of the league's teams playing. We have had a few strong days of practice this week. Regardless of the result, this event will be helpful to our goal of preparing for the Ivy Championship in late April.”
