Men's Golf Ready to Tee It Up for 2011-12

PHILADELPHIA -The Penn men's golf team had a great spring, but it ended in disappointment with a third-place showing at the Ivy League Championships. The quest to regain the Ivy title begins this Monday and Tuesday, when the 2011-12 Quakers tee it up at the University of Maryland Intercollegiate.

The event will play two rounds on Monday and a final, third round on Tuesday. The event is being held at the River Marsh Golf Club, a par-71, 6,801-yard course in Cambridge, Md.

Penn finished seventh out of 15 teams at this event last year. This week's event features the Quakers, the host Terps, and 11 other teams.

On paper, Penn's lineup is arguably as good as its ever been. The Quakers still boast the 2010 Ivy League Championships medalist, Scotty Williams, who enters his senior year. Colin St. Maxens, the 2010 Ivy League Rookie of the Year, is now a junior. Both Williams and St. Maxens earned All-Ivy honors at last year's Ivy League Championships. Max Marsico was a GCAA All-Region pick a year ago as a freshman and has enjoyed a superb summer. They will be joined by senior Dillon Hakes and junior P.J. Fielding.

Three other Penn players will be in the 75-player field as individuals -- junior Geoff Locher, and freshmen Ben Cooley and Austin Powell.
