PHILADELPHIA - In what is becoming an tradition, the Penn men’s golf team will participate in the annual Big 5 Golf Invitational this weekend at the Quakers’ home course, Philadelphia Cricket Club in Flourtown, Pa.
The 2008 field includes 15 teams from eight different conferences and features Penn and the other five Division I universities in Philadelphia (Drexel, La Salle, Saint Joseph’s, Temple and Villanova).
Tee times begin at 8 a.m. both Saturday and Sunday on the Cricket Club’s Wissahickon Course. Live scoring will be available beginning on the back nine Sundaythrough Temple University’s athletics website, owlsports.com, as well as golfstatresults.com.
In addition to the six Philadelphia teams, the field includes Binghamton, Boston College, Cornell, Florida Gulf Coast, Harvard, Lafayette, Lehigh, Seton Hall, and William& Mary.
Cornell won the 2007 team title by four strokes over Seton Hall, Princeton and Boston College. Penn was the top city finisher and won the Big 5 City Championship. J.J. Amoruso of George Mason won the event with an even-par 71-71=142 last fall.
