Men's Golf Tees Off 2010 Spring Season

PHILADELPHIA - The Penn men's golf team opens its spring season this Friday and Saturday, taking part in the George Washington Invitational. The 54-hole event will take place on the par-72, 6,834-yard Bear Trap Dunes golf course, with 36 holes being played Friday and a final 18 on Saturday. Both days will start with shotgun starts at 8:30 a.m.

This is the first of five events planned for the men's team this spring. The team had some players compete in the 54-hole Pioneer Shootout while out in California during spring break, but this will be the Quakers' first official competition leading up to the Ivy League Championships at the end of April.

Penn's lineup this weekend will consist of senior Chance Pipitone and Bryant Williams, juniors Kevin Huntington and Ross Merrill, and sophomore Scotty Williams. Two other players -- junior Sam Williams and sophomore Dillon Hakes -- will participate as individuals.

"We are expecting a strong finish," said Penn's second-year head coach, Scott Allen, who for years ran this tournament as GW's head coach. "Penn has a great history here, I think we have two wins and two third-place finishes over the last four years. It's nice to be able to get some extra guys in the field."
