Once again, the GW will be played at the par-72 Bear Trap Dunes Golf Club in Bethany Beach, Del. The Quakers will be joined in the field by the host Colonials as well as Binghamton, Boston College, Delaware, Hofstra, Holy Cross, La Salle, Niagara, Rider, and St. Francis (N.Y.). The teams will play 36 holes on Friday, and a final 18 on Saturday morning.
Penn won this event a year ago, besting eight other teams for the title. In addition, four Quakers gained Top-10 finishes in a 51-player field, and all four of those players will be in the lineup this weekend -- senior Scotty Williams, juniors Colin St. Maxens and P.J. Fielding, and sophomore Max Marsico. They will be joined by freshman Austin Powell. Three others players will compete in the tournament as individuals: junior Geoff Locher, and freshmen Ben Cooley and Tomas Agrest.
"We are really looking forward to our first event of the spring," said Head Coach Scott Allen, whose team recently spent the University's spring break playing in California. "We have had a lot of success at the GWI -- we are the defending champs, and we have had three firsts and two thirds in the last six years, so we are heading South with a lot of confidence. The weather is supposed to be great, and I would expect some low scores. It is also nice to have everyone on the roster healthy for this event; we only had that once in the fall.I am excited to see what we can do when we are firing on all cylinders!"
