Men's Golf Ties for Sixth at Big 5 Classic

Flourtown, Pa. – The University of Pennsylvania men’s golf team finished tied for sixth place out of 13 teams after two days of play at the 2004 Big 5/PennClassic at the Philadelphia Cricket Club. Princeton was the overall winner carding a combined 589, while Saint Joseph’s won the Big Five title by shooting a 615, edging out the Red and Blue by two strokes.

During a windy and cold final round, the Quakers carded a 309 to finish with an overall score of 617. Derek Rogers shot a team-low 75 to finish with a 151 overall, good for an 11th place finish. Rogers was named to the local Big 5 Tournament Team.

Patrick Cooper shot a 77 (157 overall), Garrett Wentzell shot a 78 (154 overall) while both Dean Merrill carded a 79 (155 overall) and Sean Barrett shot a 79 (159 overall) on the afternoon.

With today’s event, the Quakers have concluded the fall portion of their schedule.
