Men's Golf Wins Quaker Invitational

PHILADELPHIA - The Penn men's golf team won the Quaker Invitational, a 36-hole event hosted by the Quakers Monday at the Philadelphia Cricket Club. Penn shot 296-303--599 to defeat second-place Maryland (299-305--604) and third-place George Washington (305-303--608).

Penn is now 2-for-2 in spring events, as the Red and Blue also won the George Washington Invitational two weeks ago.

On a day that started cloudy but ended up being gorgeous, Penn actually had two teams in the 14-team field. The tournament was one by Penn's 'A' team, which featured P.J. Fielding, Scotty Williams, Max Marsico, Dillon Hakes and Kevin Huntington. Penn's 'B' team tied for fifth overall with Lafayette, shooting 306-310--616. That team featured Colin St. Maxens, Geoff Locher, Philip Winter and Sam Williams.

Individually, the freshman Marsico was Penn's low scorer. He carded 72-75--147 to finish third overall,two shots behind George Washington University's medalist, Andres Pumariega (75-70--145), and one shot behind second-place Matt Krembel of Army (71-75--146). Fielding tied for fourth, shooting 72-76--148, while St. Maxens was sixth overall with a 74-75--149 and Hakes tied for eighth (77-74--151).

Scotty Williams tied for 16th (75-78--153), while Winter tied for 23rd (76-78--154) and Locher was 29th (77-78--155). Huntington tied for 37th (78-79--157), and Sam Williams carded 79-79--158 to tie for 41st. Overall, 78 golfers competed in Monday's event.

Penn returns to action this weekend, competing at the 54-hole Princeton Invitational Saturday and Sunday.
