Men's Heavyweight Rowing Finishes Day 1 of Crew Classic


SAN DIEGO, Calif.--The Penn men's heavyweight crew participated in two races in the first day of the San Diego Crew Classic.

The Varsity 8 finished with a time of 5:57.15 in the "B" race of the Copley Cup. The team finished 10th overall in the 13-team field. Cal paced the B race with a time of 5:45.4, but Washington had the overall best time of 5:41.60.

In the race for the Derek Guelker Memorial Cup, theFreshman 8 clocked a time of 6:23.68 in the second of three heats. The second-place finish in the "B" race was the eighth-best time overall. Cal sped to a 6:19.4 in the B race, but Washington and Cal both marked sub-six minutes times in the A and C races, respectively. Washington led the 21-team field with a time of 5:54.70.
